EcoPro to unveil green production system for cathode materials

EcoPro Co. said on Thursday that it will unveil its Closed Loop System V2 that incorporates environmentally friendly technology at battery-related events in South Korea and Japan.

The company will participate in the 9th Battery Summit in Tokyo and the InterBattery 2024 event at COEX in Seoul.

With an investment of 2 trillion won ($1.5 billion) at its Pohang campus, EcoPro has established a Closed Loop System, integrating the entire process of cathode material production, from the recycling of used batteries to raw materials, precursor, and cathode materials.

The company has now advanced this system by incorporating eco-friendly elements, and the detailed blueprint of the enhanced Closed Loop System V2 will be unveiled at the upcoming events.

By expanding the scope of battery recycling and achieving about 30 percent cost savings compared to conventional methods through industrial wastewater purification and reuse, EcoPro aims to contribute to both environmental conservation and economic efficiency.

“By advancing the Closed Loop System, we aim to lead the way in eco-friendly technology as the global leader in cathode materials,” the company said. “Through process optimization, we intend to secure a competitive edge by reducing manufacturing costs.”
