South Korea’s Doosan Enerbility Co. will venture into the shipbuilding sector with its metal three-dimensional printing technology it has accumulated from its experience and expertise in the power generation and defense sectors.

According to the company on Monday, Doosan Enerbility signed a memorandum of agreement with Pelagus 3D Pte., a Singapore-based ship and marine parts ordering platform operator, for an exchange of metal additive manufacturing (AM) technology and joint marketing.

Metal AM technology is a technique for manufacturing metal parts by layering metal powder and is also known as metal 3D printing. Pelagus 3D is a joint venture established by German shipbuilder Thyssenkrupp AG and Norway’s Wilhelmsen Group.

Under the agreement, the two companies will participate in the online platform for ordering metal AM parts in the shipbuilding and marine sectors, as well as marketing planning and business development to explore business opportunities targeting shipbuilders in Korea.
