South Korean Information technology (IT) service management company Kolon Benit Co. said on Tuesday that it built a new ‘AI Brain Lab’ to strengthen its capabilities in artificial intelligence (AI) research and development.

The AI Brain Lab, located at the Kolon Tower in Gwacheon, Gyeonggi Province, is a space that integrates and operates the company’s AI infrastructure across the organization. By clustering existing graphics processing unit (GPU) servers used in various business areas, the lab concentrates the resources needed for AI research in one place.

Kolon Benit plans to use the AI Brain Lab as a specialized research base to proactively validate the latest AI technologies and explore new business opportunities.

With this goal in mind, the company equipped the lab with multiple Nvidia A100 Tensor Core GPUs and introduced high-performance GPU servers based on the latest 5th-generation interface (PCIe Gen5.0), enabling fast data transfer. The company expects that the provision of a high-speed computational environment for AI infrastructure will facilitate the easy implementation of cutting-edge generative AI technologies.

Kolon Benit also plans to secure servers with neural processing units (NPUs) featuring AI semiconductors in the first half of 2024 to further expand its research capabilities.

With the AI Brain Lab now open for business, Kolon Benit is taking a significant step toward enhancing its AI R&D and business competitiveness. The company is focusing on securing AI technologies applicable to corporate business, particularly targeting the enterprise-level large language model (LLM) market.

“We will use the AI Brain Lab as a forward base to quickly create our unique competitiveness in the rapidly changing AI market,” Han Hyun, head of Kolon Benit’s Research & Business Development (R&BD) Division, said. “We will introduce AI services that corporate businesses can use as soon as possible.”
