Samsung Display’s foldable panel achieves military standard in U.S.

South Korea’s Samsung Display Co. said on Monday that its 7-inch foldable panels acquired military specifications in the United States.

The panels, which are loaded on latest foldable smartphones, passed the MIL-STD 810G test, a U.S. military standard that guarantees a level of durability for a smartphone or any other device in harsh environmental conditions.

Samsung Display is the first company to achieve a U.S. military specification with a foldable panel.

The foldable panel proved fully functional even four hours after exposure to a condition where a water spray at minus 10 degrees Celsius created a 6-millimeter layer of ice on its surface.

Furthermore, the panel proved tolerable two consecutive hours of exposure to extreme temperatures as low as minus 32 degrees Celsius and as high as 63 degrees Celsius.

The panel also showed no impairment in performance, even following repeated cycles of exposure to these extreme temperatures within 12 hours.

The panel proved shockproof in 26-times drop tests from a height of 1.22 meters and 10.5 times gravity tests that simulate rigorous outdoor activities.
