Samsung Electronics will collaborate with Princeton University to spearhead research and development (R&D) efforts in 6G communication technology.

On Tuesday, Samsung Research America (SRA) announced its collaboration with Princeton University as a founding member of the university’s ‘NextG Initiative Corporate Affiliates Program.’ SRA will actively participate in this initiative, contributing to the innovation of wireless and networking systems technology in the realm of 6G.

6G technology is characterized by transmission speeds exceeding 100 gigabits per second (Gb/s) as well as a maximum speed of 1 terabit per second (1Tb/s), which is over 50 times compared to the current 5G technology.

The NextG Initiative, launched by Princeton University’s School of Engineering and Applied Science in 2023, serves as a platform for enhanced knowledge exchange between industry and academia. It focuses on supporting the development and innovation of next-generation communication technologies as well as covering research areas including cloud computing, intelligent sensing, and network resilience. Notable global telecommunication and semiconductor companies, including Ericsson, Intel, MediaTek, Nokia Bell Labs, Qualcomm Technologies, and Vodafone, have also joined the NextG Initiative as founding members.

Samsung Electronics has been at the forefront of 6G research since May 2019, when it opened its Advanced Communications Research Center (ACRC) under Samsung Research.
