KleanNara Co., a South Korean manufacturer of specialized paper products, announced Tuesday that it has successfully developed expanded polystyrene (EPS) micro pellet technology, achieving 100 percent recycling of EPS.

Starting last month, KleanNara has commenced the mass production of EPS micro pellets, with plans to expand its presence in the eco-friendly materials market.

EPS micro pellets are small bead-shaped particles, less than 0.8mm in size, created from recycled EPS. When blended with virgin plastic, they can be reproduced into new EPS products.

The utilization of EPS micro pellets is expected to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by over 72 percent per kilogram of virgin plastic produced compared to conventional EPS production.

Moreover, by incorporating 50 percent of EPS micro pellets in the production process, the resulting EPS meets the European Union’s (EU) packaging regulations, which mandate a recycling material ratio of over 35 percent for packaging materials by 2030. This compliance positions KleanNara’s products to have a competitive edge in the international market, meeting the EU’s packaging regulations, the company said.
