The EL Electric Vehicle Advanced Technology Association (EL Evata), a South Korean secondary battery cell manufacturer, will intensify efforts to increase its presence in the Indian market following its entry into Saudi Arabia.

According to industry sources on Sunday, EL Evata has recently opened an office in Delhi, India, and is pushing ahead with the establishment of manufacturing plants in Nagpur and Navi Mumbai, Maharashtra. Chief Executive Officer Kim Young-il stated that EL Evata is forming a joint venture with its affiliate, electric vehicle manufacturer Electrical Life Business and Technology (EL B&T), as well as Indian partners, for the local assembly production of EVs, batteries, electric motorcycles, electric three-wheeled vehicles, and electric drones.

The company is also planning to supply transport drones in India. It is currently developing drones necessary for transporting medical boxes and various supplies in the border areas of the Himalayas and is aiming to supply them to the Indian Ministry of Defense. “The electric drone business, developed for purposes such as urgent medical equipment supply, is in its final stages of completion,” Kim explained.

EL Evata develops and manufactures cylindrical lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries using German technology. The company plans to establish an LFP battery factory in Turkey and produce high-performance LFP batteries with improved performance compared to those previously sold in Europe, targeting the European market. “Currently, infrastructure construction is underway, including battery production facilities and clean rooms,” Kim said, adding that the company’s goal is “to start mass production of LFP batteries there, possibly from March 2024.”
