South Korean trading firm Posco Daewoo Corp. has won a $60 million order to provide a ship design and materials package to build a multi-purpose vessel for the Peruvian Navy.

The company said on Sunday the contract was signed with Peru’s state-run shipyard Servicios Industriales de la Marina (SIMA).

The latest contract represents the company’s second multi-purpose vessel project for the Latin American country after the first deal in 2013 with the backing of KOTRA, South Korea’s governmental trade promotion organization.

The ship to be built by SIMA will be used for rescuing people and transporting emergency supplies in disaster situations, according to Posco Daewoo.

Posco Daewoo will receive a ship design and materials from Daesun Shipbuilding & Engineering Co., a South Korean shipbuilder, before providing them to SIMA.

Peru plans to upsize SIMA as a comprehensive state shipbuilder.

The Korean trading company said the achievement was a result of joint efforts with KOTRA. KOTRA signed an MOU with SIMA in August 2013 to back Posco Daewoo in the first bid. Posco Daewoo successfully completed the first multi-purpose vessel project for Peru last year, getting good responses from Peru, the company said.
