South Korea’s Himchan Hospital specializing in spine and joint said on Monday it has signed a contract for medical cooperation and hospital construction with the provincial office of Bukhara in Uzbekistan.

Under the contract, Himchan Hospital will open a three-story local medical center commanding a space of 10,580 square meters with 100 beds and six departments - orthopedics, neurosurgery, internal medicine, surgery, pediatrics and obstetrics and gynecology.

The Korean hospital will dispatch 10 medical staffs in the new center and scale up the center to a facility of 300 beds and 12 departments.

For the project, Himchan Hospital will establish a local operation within this month and remodel the interior of the existing building over the next three months.

“We’ll demonstrate Korea’s medical skills by creating a medical hub of Uzbekistan in the province,” said a Himchan Hospital official.

Separately, the hospital signed another agreement to establish physical therapy departments at local medical colleges in Uzbekistan.

Founded in 2002, Himchan Hospital runs eight outposts with a combined 1,200 beds in Korea.
