Samsung Electronics shutters yet another mobile content service

A company official said “the decision does not mean the abolishment of the Gallery app but it aims to delete some features and services in it. The new Galaxy S9 has a function to replace it but whether such services would be offered for previous smartphones remains undecided.”
The latest step is the extension of Samsung’s pulling the plug one by one on its mobile content offerings after the tech giant declared its entry into the mobile content and services market many years ago based on its dominant position as the world’s leading smartphone maker.
In January, Samsung Electronics ended an app data backup and retrieval service available through Samsung Cloud due to dissatisfying usage rates amid competition from Google and other companies.
In 2014, Samsung Electronics introduced music and video streaming services Milk Music and Milk Video in key markets, but shuttered the services a few years later except in South Korea.
Last October Samsung Electronics’ music services were merged into one entity as Samsung Music.
Other projects that were shut down were an e-book service launched after the company began to sell e-book readers in 2009. The e-book service was later renamed into Readers Hub in 2010 and Samsung Books in 2013, but was eventually cancelled in 2014.
