South Korea’s budget carrier Eastar Jet Co. will renew regular flights from Cheongju in North Chungcheong Province, Korea to Osaka in Japan, after shutting down the route seven years ago.

According to North Chuncheong Provincial government on Thursday, Eastar Jet will offer regular flights to the Kansai International Airport in Osaka leaving the Cheongju International Airport. Boeing 737-700 with 149 seats is deployed on the new route, flying Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday from March 27.

The provincial office has been pitching to reopen the route to boost the availability of the only international airport in the province. It has tapped demand by flying irregular flights from July 2017 to February 2018 and held promotion events in Osaka last month to draw Japanese tourists.

The local government also will expand flights to China.

Flights from Cheongju to Hangzhou and Beijing will be run four times a week and to Yanji three times. Routes to Shenyang, Shanghai, Dalian, Harbin and Ningbo will be added soon, the local government said.

The airport also runs flights to Da Nang in Vietnam from April 5 to August 22 on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
