Cheil Worldwide named 15th most creative ad agency on Gunn Report

South Korea’s leading advertising agency Cheil Worldwide Inc. under Samsung Group said Monday it ranked 15th on the 2017 Gunn Report, making the top 20 list for the third year in a row.

Since 1999, the Gunn Report has ranked the world’s most creative advertising companies, campaigns, brands and countries based on the results of more than 40 of the most important awards shows around the world.

Cheil Worldwide became the first Korean ad agency to obtain a spot on the Gunn Report’s top 20 in 2015 with a ranking of 19th. It moved up a notch in 2016.

The company scooped 123 wins at major international advertising awards last year, including 11 from Cannes Lions, 19 from The One Show and 20 from Spikes Asia.

“We’re extending our influence in the global advertising industry by not only winning awards but also serving as judges and holding seminars in major competitions,” said an official from Cheil Worldwide.

By agency network, Omnicom Group’s BBDO Worldwide topped the list for the 12th year in a row. McCann Worldgroup came in second and WPP’s Ogilvy & Mather third.

The only two Asian players on the top 20 were Japan’s Dentsu, which finished 13th, and Cheil Worldwide.

Founded in 1973, Cheil Worldwide is the advertising arm of the Korean conglomerate Samsung Group. Kim Jae-youl, the son-in-law of Samsung Electronics Chairman Lee Kun-hee, currently heads the sports business unit.
