Hanwha Group’s four defense-related units have joined Armed Forces Exhibition for Diversity of Requirements & Capabilities (AFED) 2018 in Saudi Arabia for the first time in a bid to expand its business in the Middle East.

Hanwha Corporation, Hanwah Land Systems Co., Hanwha Systems Co. and Hanwha Defense Systems Corp. showcased 17 products in the exhibition organized by the government of Saudi Arabia under its Vision 2030 agenda aiming to nurture new growth engines and diversify industries. The event kicked off on Sunday (local time) in Riyadh and will run until March 3.

Hanwha Corp. introduced its 230mm-class multiple rocket launching system dubbed Chunmoo capable of firing different types of rockets depending on the intended target. It also unveiled its advanced ammunitions including remote control munition system, 40mm grenade and air ammunitions.

Hanwha Land Systems exhibited K-9 howitzer that has been recognized as the world’s most advanced self-propelled howitzer with a long shooting range for fire combat and a fast firing speed. The company expected it would secure orders for the K-9 howitzers in the Middle Eastern market this year after exporting them to Finland, India and Norway last year.

Hanwha Systems displayed its cutting-edge reconnaissance and surveillance systems including a thermal observation device (TOD) with a detection range that is twice longer than its peers and a lightweight multi-function observation device (MFOD). Hanwha Defense Systems showcased its new 6x6 armored wheeled vehicle that is designed to mount various armament systems and perform multi-purpose tactics.

An official from Hanwha Group said that the company would actively seek various measures to broaden its presence in the global defense market including the Middle East.
