South Korea’s Hyundai Motor Co. and foreign automakers including Mercedes-Benz and Toyota Motor Corp. will voluntarily recall total 53,719 units of 42 different vehicle models in Korea due to defective parts, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport said Thursday.

According to the ministry, Hyundai Motor will recall 22,975 units of Santa Fe DM and Maxcruz NC, both SUV models, for faulty steering wheel parts that would damage the connection to the steering wheel when applying excessive force.

Following the review by the ministry, Mercedes-Benz Korea will also recall 29,693 units of 35 models including C200 over a possible random airbag deployment caused by defective steering column modules.

Toyota Motor Korea’s 550 vehicles of two models including minivan Sienna 2WD and Honda Korea’s 501 units of two vehicle types including Crosstour will also be subject to a recall due to defective air bags manufactured by Japan’s Takata Corp. that can explode when deployed and cause serious injuries.

Separately, Honda Korea has issued a recall of 120 units of CR-V for faulty fuel supply pipes that could cause fuel leakage.
