South Korea’s light-emitting diode (LED) maker Seoul Semiconductor Co. has won a suit it filed against Everlight Electronics Co. to nullify the Taiwanese rival’s patent on heat prevention technology for LED package.

Seoul Semiconductor announced on Tuesday that Everlight submitted a letter to the U.K. Patent Court, saying that it would admit the patent should be revoked and abandon its defense. The U.K. court ruled on February 14 that the patent is invalid and ordered Everlight to pay $1 million in litigation costs to Seoul Semiconductor.

Everlight purchased the patent EP (UK) 1169735 related to thermal dissipation technology for LED package from a U.S. company in 2017. The company filed a patent infringement lawsuit against its rival Bridgelux Inc. in the court of California, the U.S.

As part of its zero tolerance policy for violation of intellectual property rights, Seoul Semiconductor has launched a series of lawsuits against companies who have sold LED chips and packages made by Everlight. It filed two suits against Mouser Electronics Inc., a global electronic components distributor, in the district court of Dusseldorf, Germany last year, and in Italy in February as well. As a result, Mouser has removed all Everlight products from its list of products on the website this month.

As of 12:20 p.m. on Wednesday, shares of Seoul Semiconductor fell 0.66 percent to 22,650 won in Seoul trading.
