South Korea’s construction materials making Aju Group announced Wednesday that its Aju Joeun Ggumteo, a public place for children’s education, received an award from Germany’s iF Design Award for architecture.

As one of the world’s largest design competitions with the U.S. IDEA and Germany’s Red Dot Award, iF Design Award has selected the best design in many sectors including packaging, product, service design, architecture and interior since 1953.

For this year’s award, 63 international jurors judged more than 6,400 entries from 54 countries.

Aju Group opened Aju Joeun Ggumteo for educational place for children and adolescents in August last year. The four-story building used eco-friendly materials such as bamboo and pine tree and was designed to make the best use of its small space commanding just 85 square meters. The design was led by Yoo Ewha, director of ITM Yoo Ewha Architects Co. and the eldest daughter of Itami Jun, an award-winning Korean-Japanese architect.
