South Korea’s confectionary giant Orion Corp. ranked 14th in the list of top 100 confectionary companies in the world and placed highest among local peers by global confectionary industry magazine Candy Industry, the company announced on Tuesday.

Orion has stayed in the world’s top 15 list as the sole Korean name over the last six consecutive years, the company said. Despite declining sales in the Chinese market due to the conflict over Korea’s deployment of U.S. anti-missile system, it generated robust sales in Korea, Vietnam and Russia. Brisk sales of its newly-launched snacks including mega-hit corn soup flavor snack Kkobuk Chip led to a rise in overall sales in the domestic market in five years. In the Vietnamese market, it saw the sales of its signature Choco Pie increase 18 percent, Toonis 39 percent and Ostar 38 percent last year. Its Russian operation also grew by 13.5 percent thanks to the continuous popularity of its chocolate-flavored pie snack Choco Pie.

The maker plans to focus on recovering sales in China and maintaining its dominant position in Vietnam and Russia by expanding its distribution networks.
