Argentina’s iconic red wine Clos de Los Siete - distributed and sold by HiteJinro Co. in South Korea - was served as the main beverage at a dinner party attended by International Olympic Committee President Thomas Bach held on the eve of the opening ceremony of 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, Gangwon Province.
HiteJinro, Korea’s leading liquor maker, said on Friday that Clos de Los Siete was served to 400 guests at the banquet attended by IOC President Bach on Thursday, a day before the opening ceremony of the sports event that kicked off on Friday in the country’s alpine town of Pyeongchang. The 2014 vintage of Clos de Los Siete was selected by the IOC as the main beverage for the dinner event after blind tasting.
Clos de Los Siete is a red wine blended by famed French wine consultant and oenologist Michel Rolland. Rolland found the brand with seven other Bordeaux-based winegrowers after discovering Uco Valley, a key wine-growing region of Mendoza, Argentina.
An unnamed official from HiteJinro, a Korean brewery giant that is in charge of the distribution of Clos de Los Siete, said that Clos de Los Siete matches well with the 2018 Winter Olympics as it associates with dream, challenge, and achievement.
Clos de Los Siete is currently sold across Korea including at major retailers Hyundai Department Store and Lotte Department Store.
