South Korea’s Seoul Semiconductor Co. filed a suit against Mouser Electronics Inc. and its Italian subsidiary for the sale of certain light-emitting diode (LED) products on grounds of patent infringement.

The Korean company said Thursday it filed two similar lawsuits against the electronic components distributor in the district court of Dusseldorf, Germany last year. While sales were suspended in Germany, Mouser continued to sell the allegedly infringing products made by Taiwan-based Everlight Electronics Co. to other countries.

“We felt it was necessary to hold a company accountable for its blatant disregard for intellectual property rights,” said Seoul Semiconductor. It is currently seeking a permanent injunction, compensation for damages, and withdrawal and destruction of the products.

As Korea’s first LED company, Seoul Semiconductor has been involved in a series of patent infringement lawsuits. It obtained a preliminary injunction order against Taiwanese LED maker AOT in 2005 and in 2014 won a patent lawsuit against two North American TV manufacturers. In 2016, the U.S. district court ruled that the Japanese LED lens maker Enplas had engaged in willful infringement of Seoul Semiconductor’s patents.

Shares of Seoul Semiconductor closed Friday down 2.81 percent at 22,500 won ($20.61).
