Korean auto parts supplier Hyundai Mobis announced on Tuesday Hyundai Motor’s hydrogen-powered vehicle NEXO will be the first commercial model equipped with its advanced remote smart parking assist (RSPA) next month.

Hyundai Mobis is set to begin the mass production of RSPA modules at its plant in the southern city of Jincheon in Chungnam Province.

A vehicle equipped with RSPA employs 12 different ultrasound sensors to spot a parking space and the driver can remotely park or release the car by pressing down on a button of a smart key.

A company official said Hyunudai Mobis has secured a technology portfolio ahead of global competitors in the era of automation and autonomous driving, and the company will do utmost to ensure its technology to be adopted in Korean finished cars initially.

Hyundai Mobis also unveiled a plan to apply its Integrated Mobis Electronic Brake (iMEB) technology to new vehicles. The technology charges the car battery using the electrical power generated from braking. Compared to a vehicle equipped with a standard motor, iMEB can reduce energy loss by 70 percent.

Hyundai Mobis will expand the application of RSPA and iMEB to fossil-fuel cars beyond hybrid engines, the official said.
