South Korea’s Naver Corp. entered into a strategic partnership with Xiamoi to mount its artificial intelligence solution to consumer products of the Chinese electronics maker in line with the global trend of internet giants pushing their business beyond cyberspace.

Naver signed a memorandum of understanding with the Chinese electronics maker and its Korean vendor Youmi to power Xiaomi’s IoT devices including light bulbs, air purifiers and remote switches with Naver’s voice-activated AI platform Clova. Financial terms of the partnership were not disclosed.

“This collaboration will greatly expand the scope of IoT services offered by Clova,” said a Naver official.

Shares of Naver Wednesday closed 0.94 percent down at 843,000 won ($776.03) from the previous session.

Founded in 2010, Xiaomi has grown to become one of the top five smartphone makers in China. It has recently started turning out bigger appliances such as TVs, air purifiers and air conditioners.

The two companies did not confirm whether Clova will be applied to Xiaomi’s other electronics such as action cameras and TVs.
