South Korea’s leading mobile carrier KT Corp. and builder Hyundai Engineering & Construction Co. have joined hands to provide artificial intelligence (AI)-based smart home service to apartment residents.

The two companies announced Tuesday that they signed a memorandum of understanding to provide combined AI services of KT’s AI platform GiGa Genie and Hyundai’s voice-recognition platform Voice Home. They aim to apply the services for the first time to Hyundai’s Hillstate apartment complex that will go on sale in the first half of this year.

The residents who would live in the building will be able to control lighting, heating and cooling, gas, as well as Internet of Things (IoT)-based home appliances via the embedded voice-detecting AI system and KT’s GiGa Genie platform that will also provide traffic information and check personal schedule.

For instance, when a home owner comes back home, the security mode would be disabled and living room lights be turned on automatically. The resident could check if there is any parcel delivered during his or her absence, and the digital assistant would tell the owner weather information or latest news.

An official from Hyundai E&C said that residents of its Hillstate apartment will be offered comfortable and differentiated service that enables them to do many things on voice command.
