LS Cable starts cable safety inspection business

The company said on Tuesday it will start the cable safety inspection business for major industrial facilities at home and abroad. The cable maker would be the first technical consultant in Korea for the entire electric power system that conducts a safety inspection on cables and power utilities in or near industrial facilities and provide related consulting services.
The latest decision is part of its strategy to expand its business into maintenance, management and technical consulting services beyond manufacturing. On top of that, demand for cable safety inspection has recently increased following a series of fatal fire accidents at public and private buildings such as hospitals and a gym in Korea, LS Cable explained.
“Many major industrial facilities in Korea were built in the 1970s and 1980s, and the old cables in these buildings require immediate safety checks,” said a company official.
LS Cable, the country’s leading cable maker, already owns key technologies in analyzing cable material, insulation performance and system process. It currently provides a checkup service for power utilities. The company is expected to offer safety inspection service backed by big data and AI technologies.
