South Korea’s leading budget carrier Jeju Air Co. topped 50 million in the number of cumulative passengers, becoming the first low-cost carrier in the country to reach that landmark.

The company said on Monday it touched a major milestone after nearly 12 years of operation. Launched in 2006, it hit the 10 million mark in May 2012 and the 30 million mark in January 2016, and the passenger volume has since been growing at a rapid pace jumping by 10 million almost every year. It is expected to pass the 60 million mark around October this year.

About 60 percent, or 30.03 million, of passengers used the airline for domestic flights. Japan was the most popular international destination at 16.9 percent, followed by Southeast Asian countries at 11.1 percent.

Jeju Air became Korea’s first low-cost carrier to be listed on the country’s main Kospi bourse in November 2015.

As of 2:23 p.m., shares of Jeju Air were up 4.33 percent at 39,800 won ($36.43).
