South Korea’s Aju Corporation said on Monday it has started full-scale operations of its newly constructed Myanmar plant for PHC piles, high strength concrete piles to support the foundation structure on the ground.

The plant located in the Thilawa Special Economic Zone of the Southeast Asian country was completed last month after 11 months of construction and went through commissioning for about a month. The latest plant represents the construction material producer’s third overseas facility after a PHC pile plant in Vietnam built in 2008 and an electric pole plant in Cambodia built in 2011.

The new plant sits on about 60,000 square meters of land and has an annual capacity of 200,000 tons of PHC piles.

The unlisted company aims to use the new plant to diversify its portfolio to include precast concrete products and pile work, for example.

“The Aju Myanmar Plant will be used as a strategic point in the network of neighboring Southeast Asian countries,” said Park Sang-il, president of Aju Corporation.
