South Korea’s two leading constructors SK Engineering & Construction Co. and Posco Engineering & Construction Co. each won bids in a $5.4 billion petrochemical plant project in Vietnam.

SK E&C said on Thursday it has clinched a $2 billion worth ethylene plant deal, the biggest tender for Vietnam-based Long Son Petrochemical Co. sought by Thailand’s largest private-owned Siam Cement Public Company Ltd, in consortium with France’s Technip. The two would take home $1 billion each.

Posco E&C also won a 750 billion won ($699.8 million) worth order in the same project to build 28 units of storage tanks with a combined capacity of 300,000 tons, pipes for base materials delivery and dock and marine facilities in the Long Son Petrochemical Complex. The company aims to complete the construction by 2022 on an engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) basis.

Once completed, Long Son Petrochemical Complex would be the country’s first petrochemical complex located about 100 kilometers southeast of Vietnam’s capital Ho Chi Minh City. It would produce 950,000 tons of ethylene and 400,000 tons of propylene annually.
