South Korea’s KB Securities Co. has kicked off operations of its Vietnamese subsidiary under new name KB Securities Vietnam (KBSV), which was changed from Maritime Securities, the company said on Tuesday.

The Korean brokerage acquired Maritime Securities in November 2017 betting on its stellar performance in investment banking and brokerage businesses in Vietnam. The Vietnamese securities firm earned 6.4 billion won ($6.0 million) in sales last year with assets of 33 billion won.

KBSV will focus to provide consulting and financing services for Korean businesses that will seek to advance into Vietnam. It also plans to enhance its brokerage services for local firms.

“KB Securities will improve the local entity’s competitiveness by applying our wealth management prowess in combination with information technology business,” said a company official.

The Korean securities firm that now runs four overseas operations including two foreign entities, one overseas liaison office and the Vietnamese subsidiary has been seeking to expand its global footprint.

The purchase of a full stake in Maritime Securities was part of KB Securities’ efforts to expand its global business and foster its investment banking business. In May 2017, the Korean brokerage also decided to raise $80 million in capital of its Hong Kong operation.
