South Korea’s builder Daelim Industrial Co. has partnered with the nation’s largest car-sharing service provider Socar to provide dedicated parking space for car-sharing vehicles at its buildings to make it easier for people to use car-sharing services.

The two companies announced on Wednesday that they signed a memorandum of understanding to increase the so-called Socar Zone where users pick up and drop off the cars at Daelim’s residential, office and commercial buildings.

Daelim plans to designate three Socar Zones at its new E-Pyeonhansesang apartment complex in Yongin, Gyeonggi Province. Residents who will start to move in the apartment at the end of June this year will be allowed to use Socar service at a discounted price of up to 30 percent. The Korean builder currently operating a Socar Zone at its D Tower in Gwanghwamun, central Seoul, will also add more parking space for Socar vehicles to its buildings.

An official from the company expected that the partnership with Socar should give people easier access to car-sharing services, adding that the company is seeking to expand collaboration with companies in other industries to provide differentiated services.

Socar that begun its car-sharing service in Korea in 2012 now operates more than 8,200 cars and 3,200 Socar Zones across the nation. Its largest shareholder is SK Holdings Co. that owns a 20 percent stake in the firm. It has recently entered the Malaysian market and been aggressively seeking to expand its business in overseas markets.
