South Korea’s LG Electronics Inc. was named the top eco-friendly company in Korea by U.S. business journal, beating other big local names Posco, Hyundai Motor and SK Innovation.

According to industry insiders on Tuesday, LG Electronics ranked 23rd in the Green Ranking 2017 announced by U.S. business journal Newsweek, taking the highest spot among four Korean names in its top 100 list. Newsweek announces the ranking every year after reviewing eight criteria including productivity, green product sales and connectivity between sustainability and salary level.

LG Electronics came at 23rd by winning a score of 67.50 percent. “We owe our high ranking to the four strategies to fight against climate change such as investment in high-efficiency facilities and increased adoption of renewable energy,” a company official explained.

In the top 100 list, Korea’s largest steel maker Posco ranked 47th with a score of 61.60 percent, Hyundai Motor 68th with 58.80 percent, and SK Innovation 91st with 55.30 percent. Among other Korean companies, Samsung Electronics held the 103rd place, Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO) 132nd, Hana Financial Group 186th, and Hyundai Heavy Industries 270th.

Meanwhile, French cosmetics maker L’Oreal topped the global top 100 list this year, followed by British utility company Centrica, Canadian natural gas carrier Enbridge, German energy and healthcare firm Siemens, U.S. IT company Cisco, according to the Green Ranking.
