Naver expands CLOVA X Skill service

South Korean tech giant Naver Corp. expanded CLOVA X, its conversational artificial intelligence (AI) service that interacts with external web functionalities via ‘Skills,’ a service comparable to OpenAI’s ChatGPT plugins.

Naver announced on Thursday that it integrated retail tech service ‘Kurly,’ AI matching recruitment service ‘Wanted,’ and travel planning platform, ‘Triple’ into its CLOVA X Skills. Skills enable CLOVA X to interact with the latest specialized information from external web services, allowing the AI to provide more accurate responses.

The service was previously only integrated with Naver Shopping, Naver Travel, and Socar, but this range of services has now been expanded.

CLOVA X is an interactive AI agent powered by Naver’s large-scale AI, HyperCLOVA X. For example, users can quickly find the latest job information tailored to their profiles by activating the ‘Wanted’ skill in the CLOVA X chat window and asking questions like, “I am a user experience (UX) designer with five years of experience, find me a suitable company to apply to.” CLOVA X will respond based on the ‘Wanted’ web service and provide an easy path to each service.

Users can select the ‘Triple’ skill and ask to recommend an itinerary for 4 days in Osaka or activate the ‘Kurly’ skill and ask to find winter snacks that elementary school students like, with CLOVA X providing not only recommendations but also the relevant URL links.

“Generative AI will easily perform complex tasks when actively connected with other systems,” Seong Nak-ho, head of hyperscale AI technology at Naver Cloud Co., said. “We plan to expand CLOVA X’s skill ecosystem and update the model to provide real value to users.”
