GS Home Shopping announced on Thursday it has invested 5 billion won ($4.7 million) in New Tree, an exclusive supplier of collagen products for the South Korean leading home shopping channel, as part of efforts to strengthen partnerships with its suppliers and seek new business opportunity.

New Tree topped the list of best-selling healthcare products on the channel last year. The small Korean company generated about 300 billion won from a single product lineup called `Ever Collagen Inn Up’ last year alone. The company grew fast with revenue of about 59 billion won in 2017 and is forecast to rake in 100 billion won in 2020.

New Tree has successfully transformed itself from raw materials supplier to product developer and wholesaler, making a hit with several health functional foods such as Ever Collagen, Pandora Diet and Avocado Oil. Most of its sales come from TV home shopping channels, and the latest alliance with GS Home Shopping is expected to boost its top-line growth further.

GS Home Shopping’s latest investment in the small healthcare product producer follows a series of its investments into other suppliers. GS Home Shopping made an investment into global kitchenware brand World Kitchen last year, increasing its influence in Asian kitchenware markets, while exploring new business models with its capital partnership with data-based market company PayCo.

GS Home Shopping also doled out 950 million won to wet cloth maker Everybot to empower the supplier to diversify revenue channels.

On Thursday, GS Home Shopping shares fell 4 percent to end at 204,000 won on the Kosdaq market.
