Tanker carrying Hanwha Total’s crude oil worth $60 mn ablaze

After the accident, more than 30 crew member of the Iranian oil tanker were missing and the vessel started spilling the crude oil into the ocean.
According to various news media on Sunday, the oil tanker Sanchi carrying $60 million worth gas condensate from Iran to South Korea caught fire after colliding with the Hong Kong-registered freighter CF Crystal about 160 miles off China’s east coast.
Hanwha Total said the tanker was owned by China’s Bright Shipping Ltd. and leased by the National Iranian Tanker Co. (NITC). “The ship owner will take full responsibility for the accident and the entire damage will be covered by insurance,” an official from the company said.
The collision has left all of the 32 crew members - 30 Iranians and two Bangladeshis - of Sanchi missing. The entire 21 crews of the CF Crystal were all rescued, according to China’s transport ministry.
Currently, a rescuing operation for the missing crew members is underway while clean-up efforts are being made to prevent additional oil spill contamination in the sea.
