Hyundai Motor Group will open three innovation centers this year as part of efforts to stay competitive in the race to develop mobility, artificial intelligence (AI), and robot technologies.
The South Korean auto conglomerate plans to set up three new research and development center this year, adding to its innovation centers in Israel and Silicon Valley, the United States to run a total of five centers across the world to pursue innovation in future technologies such as connected mobility and autonomous driving, according to its global R&D network development outline announced at its U.S office on Sunday (local time).
One of the three new innovation centers will be set up in Seoul by expanding its Hyundai Venture Plaza that opened up in 2000. Beijing, China and Berlin, Germany are being mulled as locations for two other new innovation centers.

The automaker expects the new R&D centers play a major role in building a network with local businesses, academia, and promising startups in future technologies. Moreover, they will provide a ground in creating new businesses, said a Hyundai Motor Group official.
The company in November opened an innovation center dubbed ‘Hyundai Cradle’ in Silicon Valley, California and also announced a plan to set up ‘Open Innovation Center’ in Israel early this year.
