South Korea’s tech giant Samsung Electronics Co. has established a joint venture with Japan’s Panasonic and U.S. 20th Century Fox for cooperation to promote more use of its high definition video technology called high dynamic range 10 plus (HDR10+).

Samsung Electronics said on Sunday it has formed a JV named HDR10+ Technology.LLC with Panasonic and 20th Century Fox and set up a certification and logo program to promote HDR10+, one of technical forms that helps realize HDR advanced video technology. It improves overall screen contrast by presenting brighter whites and darker blacks, offering viewers with more real-life screen.

With an aim to make more companies use the HDR10+ technology, the new program consists of definitions of technologies and test details, guidelines for certification logo, sharing of related patents and certification through third-party authorities.

Samsung Electronics in September 2017 announced plans to forge new partnership with the two companies to take the lead in next-generation HDR technology by creating an open platform. Then it introduced world’s first premium video content streaming service applying HDR10+ technology with U.S. e-commerce giant Amazon.com in December and unveiled its plan to add more contents by joining hands with U.S. film studio Warner Bros. Entertainment early this month.
