Dongkwang Pharm, a mid-sized Korean pharmaceutical company, announced on Wednesday it has won a Korean patent for a substance that could be developed as a medicine to treat Parkinson`s disease.
The company said the potential of the substance was identified during its state-commissioned research project conducted with researchers from two local universities Kyung hee University and Chonnam National University
The company is planning to apply for a local phase 2 clinical trial authorization of the new substance as soon as possible. Parkinson`s disease is caused by a lack of dopamine, a chemical in the brain that transmits neural signals.
