LG Electronics has been granted safety certification on its self-driving vehicle components and car media parts from TUV Rheinland, Europe`s authority on standards, the Korean company announced on Monday.

The ISO 26262 process certificate, a standard originally approved by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), aims to establish a process for functional safety product development related to a system with electrical and electronic components in a motor vehicle. It is a must certificate required by global automakers from their suppliers.

In 2014, LG Electronics first won certification in the area of EV parts from the independent agency and the latest certification is available to broader areas that include ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems) camera, infotainment system, car display and car media parts.

The company was also certified on its development process for automotive products compliant with the highest ASIL (Automotive Safety Integrity Level)-D requirements.

ASIL is a classification of the risk of an element of the electronics, and Level D means functional failure is maintained at less than one time over consecutive usage of the element for 100 million hours.

With the latest certification for the entire process from design to production, the company said all of its components related to self-driving vehicles meet the ISO26262 standards.
