Korea’s Ilsung wins $58mn order to build roads in Paraguay

South Korea’s medium-sized builder Ilsung Construction Co. won a 62.5 billion won ($57.9 million) order to construct state roads in Paraguay, the company announced on Friday.

The latest deal is the second order Ilsung Construction has won in the Latin American country. It is currently building another state road - National Route 8 - in the country that is worth 90.5 billion won. Considering that the construction is expected to register 430 billion won in revenue for full 2017, Paraguay has emerged as a key market for the company.

Ilsung is first Korean builder that has entered the Latin American country and has been trying to tap into other markets.

In 2016, the company set foot in the Philippines for the first time through an order to construct roads at 46.6 billion won. It is hoping to clinch another 21.8 billion won project in the country to repair coastal roads by the end of this year.

The company is running operations also in Mongolia and Myanmar. In Mongolia, it built apartments and sold entire units.

It plans to step up efforts to become expand its share in the global construction market, said an Ilsung Construction official.
