Korean Air Lines Co. (KAL) has become Bombardier Inc.’s first Asian customer to order 10 of its CS300 aircrafts, the latest model known for enhanced fuel efficiency and less environmental hazard.

South Korea’s biggest full-service carrier said it will add 10 CS300 jets to its fleet by the end of next year. The first one is scheduled to arrive in Korea next Monday and the second one on Jan. 1. The payment deadline, originally due June 2016, has been extended to next June.

The CS300 is up to 20 percent more fuel efficient than its peers in the 127-seat category and its aircraft noise reduced to 20 decibels, according to the company. The plane is also roomier, with its economy seats 4.6 centimeters wider than average at 47.3 centimeters (19 inches).

The first two airplanes will undergo test operations before starting domestic flights from Jan. 16, KAL said.

The airliner plans to operate the CS300 on domestic flights, short international flights and non-regular flights.
