Hyundai Motor Co.’ Avante
South Korea’s largest automaker Hyundai Motor Co.’s mid-sized sedan Avante was crowned as the third best-selling car in the world last year. Hyundai Motor’s sport utility vehicle Tucson also put its name on the list of the world’s 10 best-selling cars for the first time.
According to the global automobile market researcher Best Selling Cars Blog on Tuesday, Avante ranked third after selling 879,224 units in the world in 2016 after Toyota’s Corolla and Ford’s F series.
Avante last year sold 3.7 percent fewer from 913,152 a year ago, but the model moved up to the third rank because Volkswagen’s Golf slipped two notches to the fourth. Hyundai’s Avante, better known as Elantra or i35 overseas, kept up popularity in the world’s two largest car markets of the U.S. and China.
Its SUV model Tucson joined the top 10 list last year after sales jumped almost 30 percent to 746,365 units from 580,614 units a year earlier. It moved up 13 notches to the eighth position, beating rivaling names of Honda’s HR-V and CR-V and Toyota’s RAV 4. The other SUV on the top 10 list was Nissan’s X-Trail.
Among Kia Motors’ car models, its SUV Sportage ranked 23rd after selling 575,565 units and K3 sedan 38th with 460,107 units.
