S. Korea’s DSME presents latest LNG technology to remain globally competitive

The shipbuilder that has been putting out efforts to improve financial conditions presented next-generation technology for LNG containers equipped with indirect heat exchange regasification system and Solidus and Mctib technologies at its energy system testing center in Okpo shipyard in Geoje, South Gyeongsang Province.
The latest self-developed systems were presented to about 80 officials from global shipping industry, energy-related entities, and overseas shipping lines including Lloyd.
The regasification system that was demonstrated by DSME for LNG carriers applies self-developed indirect heat exchange regasification type vaporizer, which reduces initial investment and operational costs. The system has been loaded to LNG-floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) that is currently being built by DSME at its shipyard in Okpo with an aim to make delivery by 2019.
DSME also displayed the latest system for LNG storage, called Solidus, which is able to significantly lower the level of vaporization from 0.07 percent to 0.05 percent. Less vaporization allows ships to have more space to carry LNG.
An unnamed official from DSME said that the technology demonstration used actual LNG to prove performance and displayed actual size models, allowing it to receive positive responses from participants. The shipbuilder will seek to normalize business by demonstrating world-class LNG technology, the official added.
