The Chinese until March 31 will be granted 15-day visa-free stay in South Korea and will become eligible to apply for multi-entry visas allowing them to stay as long as 90 days for five years as a part of the government efforts to draw tourists for the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics in February.

Indonesian, Vietnamese, and Filipino nationals will be able to apply for visas online without having to visit the Korean missions to come to Korea and they will be exempted from group visa issue fees until the end of next year in broader campaign to promote tourism, said the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

Tourists who have been to countries of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) will be granted multi-entry visas, and visa applications will become simpler for individuals on a corporate bonus trips to Korea or state sponsorships to study in Korea.

Much of the immigration procedures will be cut down by beefing up unmanned and manned immigration desks at gateways to Korea.

Marketing programs will be customized to better address needs specified for mainstream and potential visitors, said a ministry official.

For instance, Korea will attract potential visitors from India, Mongolia and Kazakhstan and market medical and healthcare tourism programs for consumers in Russia and the Middle East.

A government official said it plans to develop more value-added tour packages related to Hallyu, medical treatment and wellness tours.
