The Korea Electronics Technology Institute (KETI) and China’s Shanghai Institute of Measurement and Testing Technology (SIMT) will work together to develop a mutual certification program for electronic devices that use air to function or control air temperature and quality.

Once the mutual certification program takes effect, it is expected to significantly save time and money on obtaining product a certification, allowing small Korean electronics makers to make easy access to markets for air-related electronics in China.

KETI said on Sunday that it signed a memorandum of understanding with SIMT on mutual recognition of air-related product guidelines. Under the agreement, the two parties will share and recognize each other’s product safety and quality standards on air-related products ranging from large home appliances such as air conditioners and refrigerators to small devices such as humidifiers and hair dryers.

Also, they will share their know-how in product testing as well as expand cooperation through training and exchange programs.

KETI expected its alliance with the Chinese counterpart would help Korean air-related electronics makers cut time and efforts on having their products certified by Chinese authorities. Getting product safety and quality certifications in China takes long time on top of high service charges, making it harder for small Korean electronics firms enter the neighboring country compared to electronics giants such as Samsung Electronics Co.

SIMT is China’s one of the earliest established professional measurement verification agencies and the country’s first state-approved testing center.
