South Korea’s mobile carrier LG Uplus Corp. said on Thursday it has jointly developed a large data transfer system on a 5G network with telecom equipment maker Ubiquoss Inc.
The system dubbed ‘100G Switch’ delivers data traffic between 5G wireless base stations and a fixed-line network, capable of handling 3.6TB data at once and transferring a data packet at a speed of 0.12 ms. It can transmit data traffic for a 2GB movie in 0.16 seconds, according to the company.
The new switch can handle 46 times larger data and is 10 times faster in delivery than the existing switch on the LTE network even as the equipment size and power consumption remain unchanged, LG Uplus said.
LG Uplus aims to provide 5G network and up to 10Gbps internet services next year by building the 5G wireless base station and 100G Switch systems.
