Samsung’s Cinema LED to hit European theater

Samsung’s Cinema LED screen will debut soon in Europe as it recently closed a deal to install the all-in-one theater screen at the Arena Cinema Sihlcity in Zurich, Switzerland, according to industry sources on Thursday.

The first unit of Samsung’s 10.3-meter-wide 4K (4,096×2,160) Cinema LED display that will replace a projector beam-based screen is being prepped for installation under the partnership deal with Swiss cinema chain Arena Cinemas and movie production company Imaculix AG.

Installation work will be completed in February before opening to the public in March of next year.

Samsung plans to roll out the screen in cinemas around the world including installations planned for the USA and China next year.

After unveiling its first Cinema LED in July at the Lotte Cinema World Tower in Seoul, Korea, Samsung Electronics installed a second one at Lotte Cinema Centum in Busan last month.

The screen was also installed in October at the Paragon Cineplex Theatre in Bangkok, Thailand.

A Samsung Electronics official said the company aims to shift 10 percent of worldwide movie screens to Samsung Cinema LED by 2020, which will provide audiences with a totally new kind of cinematic experience.
