Lotte Chilsung Beverage Co. said on Thursday it will redesign the PET bottle for mineral water products, including the well-known ICIS.
The company aims to reduce the PET bottle weight by modifying the height of the bottle neck, reducing it from 18.5mm to 12.8mm
With this redesign initiative, Lotte Chilsung Beverage foresees achieving a maximum reduction of up to 12 percent in bottle weight, resulting in an annual decrease of 7.8 percent in plastic emissions from its bottled water products.
“Considering the limitations in reducing plastic volume from the bottle body, we devised methods to reduce it from other areas,” said a spokesperson from Lotte Chilsung Beverage. “We plan to implement this strategy not only in our branded products but also in private label (PB) items, further enhancing the reduction in plastic emissions.”
