South Korean builder Samsung C&T Corp. has bagged a 684.8 billion won ($629.2 million) deal to build Singapore’s first integrated transport corridor.
The company said Monday the contract by Singapore’s Land Transport Authority involves designing and constructing a 1.25 kilometer stretch of an underground expressway on the North-South Corridor, including two entry ramp and two exit ramp tunnels and facilities such as ventilation buildings.
Samsung C&T is the sole developer for the contract. It plans to start construction this month with an aim to complete it by November 2026.
The company said it is responsible for not only the construction but also the designing of the expressway. Design for the integrated transport corridor is viewed as challenging as it takes place underground, according to the company.
The North-South Corridor is a 21.5 kilometer expressway to connect towns in the north with the city center. It will be Singapore’s first integrated transport corridor with continuous bus lanes and cycling trunk routes.
Samsung C&T has completed other major projects in Singapore, including two sections of the underground expressway on Marina Coastal Expressway. Last year, it won the top civil engineering award from Singapore’s Construction Agency for MCE 483, one of the two expressway constructions.
Shares of Samsung C&T closed Monday down 2.89 percent at 134,500 won.
