Shinsegae Food Inc., catering unit of South Korea’s leading retail conglomerate Shinsegae Group, set up a joint venture on food business with a local noodle producer in Malaysia to expand in the Southeast Asian market.
Shinsegae Food and Malaysia-based food producer Mamee Double-Decker on Tuesday have signed a contract to set up a JV named Shinsegae Mamee where the two invested 50 percent each. Established in 1971, Mamee Double-Decker is the second largest instant noodle maker in the country with factories in Indonesia and Myanmar that ship out to 100 countries.
Shinsegea Mamee aims to develop Korean and Halal recipe mix to appeal to Muslim population. It will first release instant noodle with Halal-certificated sauce developed by Shinsegae Food and noodles produced by Mamee. The product will hit the shelves in the first half of next year.
