이미지 확대 South Korea’s wireless carrier KT Corp. said on Sunday it has invested about $1 million to buy shares of US-based visual processing startup 4DReplay, who has clinched investments worth $4.5 million in total from global companies including KT.
Established in 2012, 4DReplay has developed a video production technology called “time slice” that can create a 360 degree video of moving objects with any angle and depth with multiple cameras. It has successfully showcased its video making solution to broadcast recent U.S. Major League Baseball and Nippon Professional Baseball games.
KT has helped 4DReplay ramp up its business to venture into overseas markets and succeeded in applying its 5G network technologies to the video production solution. The combined technology was used to broadcast FIFA U-20 World Cup Korea 2017 in June, and KT plans to offer the broadcasting service via expanded platforms like smartphones and internet protocol TVs (IPTVs).
