Volvo Car Korea, the Korean sales unit of Sweden-based automaker Volvo Car Group, has released diesel and hybrid models of its bestselling sport utility vehicle New XC60 in South Korea.

Volvo Car Korea said on Monday it will start receiving pre-orders for the diesel engine-powered New XC60 D5 and plug-in hybrid New XC60 T8.

The New XC60 D5 is equipped with a four-cylinder diesel engine and eight-speed automatic transmission, offering 235 horsepower in maximum and 48.9 kilogram-force meter (kgf•m) torque, the company said. It is a four-wheel-drive (4WD) model applying the semi-autonomous driving system regardless of trim choices for the first time among its peers, it added.

The New XC60 T8 powered by both electric motor and gasoline engines boasts 405 horsepower in maximum, Volvo Car Korea claimed. Its top-line XC60 T8 Inscription is fitted with a crystal gear lever made by Sweden’s premium crystal glassware manufacturer Orrefors.

Prices vary according to trim choices ranging from 62.2 million won to 68.7 million won ($57,143~$63,114) for the D5 and 83.2 million won for the T8.

Volvo hopes the new models would help bolster its sales in the Korean import car maker. In October, Volvo sold total 534 units in Korea, trailing far behind German brands with Mercedes-Benz selling 4,539 units and BMW selling 4,400 units, according to the Korea Automobile Importers and Distributors Association (KAIDA).
