Samsung Group to donate $46mn as its year-end charitable giving

Samsung Electronics held a board meeting on Friday to vote on the plan to contribute 50 billion won to the charity and 3 billion won to the southern coast city of Pohang which was recently hit by 5.4-magnitude earthquake. Starting this year, the company decided to seek board approval for plans for donation of more than 1 billion won in order to enhance transparency.
This year’s year-end donation was participated by Samsung Electronics, Samsung Display, Samsung Life Insurance, Samsung Securities, Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance and Samsung Card. The group has contributed about 520 billion won to the Community Chest since 1999.
It began to give the social welfare organization 10 billion won in 1999 and the amount has increased over time to 20 billion won from 2004 to 2010, 30 billion won in 2011 and 50 billion won from 2012 to this year.
